Two dogs tie in Cutest Pet Photo Contest Round 2 with winning smiles
By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor
We have a tie! In a first for The Northside Chronicle’s photo contests, two entries have received an equal amount of votes.

We’ve had a few near-misses in the past, and once almost had a three-way tie until a single vote under half an hour before the deadline broke the tie. But this is the only time where two photos ended with exactly equal number of votes.
Perhaps this is appropriate for our Cutest Pet Contest Round 2.
One of our winners was the first entry sent in for this contest. Wayne Stallaert of California-Kirkbride submitted a photo of his dog Marvin by the iconic fountain at Point State Park (Better known as just The Point). Marvin has a wide smile on his face despite the clouds overhead, and seems to be enjoying himself.
In an act of poetic symmetry, our other winning entry was the last one sent in for the contest. Erin Holcomb of Deutschtown sent in a photo of her dog Oscar. Holcomb included a title with her entry, calling it “This smile deserves an Oscar.” Well, with her dog’s smile proving to be a winning one, she may just have a point.
Congratulations to both of the winners! Also, thanks to everyone who participated. We at The Chronicle love seeing pictures of cute animals, so this contest was a treat.
Now, onto our next photo contest theme. This time, we’re asking for your best photos of Northside Landmarks. Find the best locations across our neighborhood and snap the most artistic photo you can of them.
Rules remain the same as always: One entry per person, and the contest is open only to Northsiders or subscribers. Photos can be lightly edited (such as making a picture grayscale), but AI-generated content is not allowed.
Send in entries to editor@thenorthsidechronicle.com or our Instagram account, nschronicle. Entrants should include their name, their Northside neighborhood (or if they’re a subscriber), where they took their photo and an optional title.
All entries are due by 5 p.m. on June 18, and voting will begin on noon on June 19, ending at noon on June 24. Winners will have their pictures printed in the July 2025 edition and earn certain bragging rights.
So find those places that make the Northside appear truly iconic! Whether it’s a building, a street, a park or anything else you can think of, show us what you think of when you hear the word “Northside.”
